The Darvon cocktail is a mixture of drugs used to commit suicide. It is
mentioned frequently in newsgroups such as alt.suicide.holiday as a suitable
method by which to end one's life without needing particularly expensive or
difficult-to-obtain drugs. The ingredients are:

    * 4.5g dextropropoxyphene (Darvon) a CNS depressant, used to eventually
suppress breathing while unconscious
    * 10g phenobarbital to cause unconsciousness (also a potent CNS
depressant)
    * 300mg midazolam (or 40mg alprazolam) to induce sleep before the
effects of the phenobarbital are apparent
    * Metoclopramide taken 1-2 days before the attempt to prevent emesis
    * 25mg Prochlorperazine (Compazine) can be taken 1 hour before the
attempt instead of Metoclopramide

The midazolam may be substituted for another potent benzodiazepine such as
alprazolam (Xanax), or both may be used. Some sources suggest that the
midazolam-alprazolam combination be substituted for a combination of
lorazepam and zopiclone. Also advisable is hard liquor, as this is both a
CNS depressant and facilitates the absorption of the other drugs.
